Stu Waddel - Founder & Director, Urban Guide

I’ve lived in Christchurch for over 20 years, and cycling in the city for me started as a laugh on a vintage Raleigh. Like any good collector, my latest bike was irresistible, a sleek silver Felt electric cargo bike - The Bruhaul. Our urban bike tours are a great way to find secret spots in Christchurch, indulge in good food and activities on offer, and share the ride with others. I enjoy showing people about, sharing my story of living and working in the city, and hearing about other people’s passion for travel on two wheels. In winter the mountains are calling, and new snow on the ground the best tonic for sharing the passion of Chill - Explore With Us.

Adam Somogyi - Chill Adventurer & Mechanic

"Those who wish to control their own lives and move beyond existence as mere clients and consumers - those people ride a bike." ~Wolfgang Sachs Being a lifelong bike enthusiast, I was always keen to learn more about bikes; I wanted to know how they work, what they are made of, how they are so simple yet so complicated, and most importantly, I was desperate to know why is it that there are still people on this planet who don’t ride one?!? Having worked in the bike industry for nearly a decade helped me answer most of these questions but I still think that more people should be riding and my mission is to make the world a better place, one cyclist at a time. Keen to be next?

Nicole Montgomery - Chill Adventurer

It all started with a Study Abroad trip to New Zealand in 2014 that sparked my love with this country. Ever since, I have found creative and exciting ways to make my way back to New Zealand, having spent the last 4 years chasing winters between New Zealand and Colorado. My passion for skiing and biking has followed me all over the world and has landed me in Christchurch, New Zealand. My favorite thing about living in Christchurch is getting to ride my bike to work and therefore having time to spend outside that most people don't get day to day. I am excited to continue to explore this beautiful country on two wheels and two planks.

Clare Hastings - Urban Guide

Having lived and attended School within the 4 Avenues (Old City Belt) and also working in Cathedral Square 20+ years I am always enthusiastic to show everyone our fascinating city.  Many new buildings, parks, reinstated lanes and numerous restaurants make for an emerging fresh city after our devastating earthquakes of 2011 but we also have a great many years of heritage.

Having taken a cycle tour 10 years ago in Paris I thought “I can do this at home – I know and love my city” so consequently I have been a guide now for nine years and loving every minute sharing my knowledge.

Dave Johnston - Mechanic

I received my first bicycle at 10 years old and have been hooked ever since. I started road cycling at 13, exploring, training and eventually joining the high school cycling team and started racing. I had a lot of fun doing all day adventures on the bike and some weeks training/racing up to 800 km a week, cycling was now a way of life not just a sport.

I’m currently riding road and mountain bikes for fun and especially enjoy riding Craigieburn and Queenstown trails.

I have worked in the bicycle industry since I left school and am now thw head mechanic at Chill and also workshop manager and teacher at R.A.D Bikes. I have also enjoyed over the years teaching bicycle riding skills and mechanics and trail building roughly 20 years doing each. I enjoy problem solving and making sure the bike is safe, efficient, and fun. The diverseness of bicycles always keeps the job interesting, and I am looking forward to more adventures and good times on the bike …bring it on …
