2012 Big Mountain CHILL Series – Registrations Open
CHILL, K2 and Black Diamond are pleased to announce that the 2012 Big Mountain CHILL Series is back and “bigger than ever before” as reported by event director Stu Waddel. The Series kicks off at Mt Olympus, playground of the Gods, with the K2 Big Mountain CHILL Series. This is a four day event with the competition moving venues to Craigieburn Valley for the final two days.

The Black Diamond Big Mountain CHILL Series is a three day competition held at the Big Mountain mecca of Temple Basin. Expect to see big names, big lines and big smiles. These events are highlights in the New Zealand freeskiing calendar and this year both events are 2-Star Freeride World Tour Qualifiers. This means there’s points up for grabs as well as $5000 cash at each event.
Registrations are now open and there has been strong interest from New Zealand and international athletes already. Last year’s men’s ski winner Jamie Adcock (UK) has confirmed he will be defending his K2 Big Mountain title. Other contenders confirmed already are kiwis Campbell Smith, Roy Schott and super grom George Pengelly as well as a strong international field including Gemany’s Eric Zeller. The women’s draw is shaping up well with the return of Nat Segal (Aus) and snowboarding shredstress Sabrina Fiebig (Aus).
The New Zealand Free Ski Open, Lake Wanaka, runs hot on the heels of the Black Diamond Big Mountain CHILL Series. Sunday the 2nd of September is a weather window and will only be used in the Black Diamond Big Mountain if the weather was unsuitable in the previous days of competition. If the Black Diamond runs to Sunday the New Zealand Freeski Open will delay their start one day to allow suitable time to make a safe journey south.
